Ex vicepdte. U.S. Cheney suffered mild cardiac attack: press

Cheney, 69, who was vice president under President George W. Bush, was hospitalized Monday after suffering chest pains.

“Laboratory tests revealed evidence of a mild heart attack,” said Cheney”s office. “He had a stress test and cardiac catheterization. It feels good and is expected to be discharged within a day or two,” he added.

Cardiac catheterization is a medical procedure used to diagnose and treat certain heart conditions. The procedure involves inserting a thin flexible tube into a blood vessel in an arm or leg and extend it to the heart to check for blockages.

Bush Cheney telephoned at George Washington University Hospital.

It was unclear whether Cheney will accompany Bush at a meeting Friday in Washington to be attended by veterans of his Government. Bush will travel from Dallas to the event.

Cheney has been one of the biggest critics of President Barack Obama since the Democrat took office in January 2009. Cheney accuses him of being weak on terrorism.

Last week, Cheney went to conservative Republicans and stated his belief that Obama would be a “president for a period”.

previous heart attacks Cheney were in 1978, 1984, 1988 and 2000. The last occurred shortly after the November 2000 elections when he was elected vice president.

In 2001 a cardiac defibrillator was implanted in Cheney to monitor your heart and give back to a normal rhythm when they occurred abnormal heartbeat.

The device was replaced in 2007 because its battery was running out.
